Blue tit Blue tit in its normal habitat Blue tit flew from Lista to Shetland
By T. Bentsen Eightyfive blue tits were ringed on this day. One of these flew in to a net at Revtangen Ornithological Station on the 12th of October. The biggest numbers of blue tits were ringed on 1st of October, a total of 428 individuals. Five of them flew to the island of Utsira (Ornithological Station) and one flew to Revtangen. Recoveries over time show that blue tits passing through Lista are in general continuing in a western direction. Some individuals are recovered in different areas, but they probably first go west after being ringed at Lista. One bird was recovered at Starene Field station in Hedmark County. The journey was done in 29 days and the bird might have crossed the mountains from west to east. The total number of blue tits ringed this year is about the same as in 2010, and slightly less than in 2011. It is rare with high ringing numbers for a species three years in a row, and also in 2007 and 2008 there were many blue tits on the move. Recoveries of blue tits, robin and chiffchaff. Average journey time: 10.9 days 1 blue tit to Shetland: 5 – 17/10: 12 days. 1 blue tit to Starene: 26/9 - 25/10: 29 days One chiffchaff ringed at Lista 11/10 and found dead at Faroe Islands 14/10/2012 A Robin flew to France, Pas-de-Calais.
