The Greenfinch is mainly considered a resident bird, but in the mountain areas of Norway and northern Sweden, northeastern Finland and to the east in northern Russia it is a migratory bird. Some Greenfinches migrate south for the winter, but there are also many that overwinter in Norway. Since the mid-2000s, a decline in the population has been registered.
