The Lapland Longspur breeds mainly in the mountains in Norway, but is found in the northern areas all the way to the coast. This species is mostly observed at Lista in migration in April and September. We know very little about where the Norwegian breeding Lapland Longspur migrates and overwinters (Heggøy 2019).

The decline in Norway has been around 30 - 50% over a ten-year period, up to 2015. For this reason, the species is placed in the category «Vulnerable» (VU) in the Norwegian Red List of Species. At Lista BO, it shows a decreasing trend in recent years. The figures below show updated data from the bird station:
